Caricature map of Europe by E. Muller, 1914. Despite the date, the depiction of the Balkans reflects the situation prior to the First Balkan War of 1912-13 in which Turkey lost substantial European territory to Serbia, Greece, Montenegro, Albania, and Bulgaria. It is also overstates the influence of Spain on Portugal in which, after the deposition of King Manuel II in 1910, the Republic of Portugal was declared.
