Son of Sherif Hessein ibn Ali, and a leading commander of the Arab Revolt. He led the forces in the Hejaz on the Red Sea and in the June 1916 Arab attack on Medina. He worked with the British and with T.E. Lawrence, receiving military aid. In the western press, Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia, overshadowed him.
