Narodna Odbrana — National Defense

Two days after Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1908, the Serbian Foreign Minister, Serbian Army generals, and other officials and ministers founded Narodna Odbrana, National Defense, to promote Serbian interests and to work against Austria-Hungary in the province. It would delivered propaganda, spies, and weapons to Bosnia. The organization was closely tied to Union or Death, called the Black Hand, which trained and armed the assassins of Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

In its July 25, 1914 response to Austria-Hungary's ultimatum to Serbia of the 23rd, Serbia agreed to suppress Narodna Odbrana.
