Ypres

Ypres, a city in Belgium, was the center of fierce fighting during World War I including the First Battle of Ypres, part of the 1914 Battle of Flanders, the Second Battle of Ypres, that saw the first use of poison gas on the Western Front, and the Third Battle of Ypres, better known as the Battle of Passchendaele.

The town was once the capital of West Flanders and had as many as 200,000 residents. Its chief commercial activity in 1914 was the manufacture of linen and lace.

The Belgian army riding school, the Ecole d'Equitation, was in Ypres.

Ypres is a city in Belgium.
