Fieldmarshall von Hindenburg rakes in Russian prisoners of war during the Second Battle of the Masurian Lakes, February 7 to 22, 1915. A German victory, initial battle reports had German forces taking 100,000 Russian prisoners. The number may have been as low as 55,000. Hindenburg wears the Pour le Mérite he was awarded in 1914 after the Battle of Tannenburg in which the Germans destroyed the Russian Second Army, taking 90,000 prisoners.
